Beware Of This Common Mistake With Your Upvc Door Handles
Types of UPVC Door Handles
If your door handle made of uPVC needs replacing it's essential to find the right replacement for your home. A locksmith can provide and install high-security uPVC door handles that come with additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Check these measurements to ensure the new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rod that pivots around an object. When you apply force to the end of the lever it will tend to rotate the fulcrum to the direction of the force. This motion increases the force and lets you lift or move things that would normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is called the mechanical advantage. The mechanical advantage increases when the lever is extended. You can determine the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point at which you're applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and the end of the lever.
Levers can have different effects based on how forces are applied. A lever of class 2 for instance is prone to rotating in the opposite direction when an force applied to it. The forces created when you push on the handle of a front door will produce rotational effects that are similar to those.
However, levers don't create energy. They simply increase the force you exert by changing a small amount of effort over a large distance into a greater amount of force applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move large quantities of cargo. This is also the reason behind levers found in many everyday tools like crowbars, fishing rods, hammer claws and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are a form of upvc door handle with levers on both sides to operate the multipoint lock. Lever pad handles are available in a variety of finishes & designs and can be used on a wide range of materials such as UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the doors, both exterior and interior, with spindles and screws included. They are available both hand- and non-handled versions to suit different users.
These can be used to replace existing doors made of upvc. The levers are lowered to open all the multipoint locks, and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide additional security in comparison to traditional lever door handles as the locking operation can only be gained from the inside with a key unless the door is locked.
They are not as safe as a cylinder lock, but they are an affordable way to add extra security to your home. The only downside is that they do not offer the same level of protection like a cylinder bolt and therefore don't stop external access in the event that the door has been left open.
The majority of lever pad upvc door handles that we have in stock are manufactured by the leading manufacturers in the industry, and are made from high quality components. They also come with a manufacturer's warranty.
They usually are designed to work with the 92mm lock or a replacement model called the Paddock Lock. They will feature a 92mm cylinder center on the inside and 62mm on the exterior and be fitted with 2 spindle followers. Some come with the backplate, and others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the most basic type of door handles. The lever is pushed down to open a latch inside the door that can be locked with a key. Certain lever privacy handles work using the same principle but with the addition of a Snib (like knobs for doors).
A snib is a very useful tool, especially in homes where privacy and security are crucial. You can use the snib button to prevent your partner from entering until they are ready. This kind of handle can also be used for doors in the interior, like those in bedrooms where you want to restrict access from outside.
In certain situations there are instances where snib buttons could cause problems, especially when you have doors and locks that are warped. If the snib is used in error or by someone who isn't quite used to it, the door may slam shut and shut you out. You can usually gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't the best option.
If your uPVC door has a snib lock, we recommend replacing the handle with a contemporary E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. They can be retrofitted to pull handle kits that double turn and are available with cover plates that hide existing holes to ensure a seamless installation. The E-LOK app is able to unlock doors with RFID cards or mechanical key. Passcodes are also available for security and convenience. The system is tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles are made of solid metal and comply with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.

This is a well-known handle style for front doors. It has the benefit of stopping the door from being opened from the outside without a key, if the lock isn't deadlocked. This is accomplished by using the 'pad-shaped' handle that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.
This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks that employ a split spindle mechanism. This kind of operation requires that the internal lever handle and external pad handle are both fitted to the same lock case. This could be a straightforward replacement of the existing uPVC handle, however it may also require a new lock case or a new set of handles to handle furniture.
